Pregnancy chiropractic care

Comfortable, supportive care through your pregnancy.

Around half of pregnant women experience back pain at some point. Gentle chiropractic care may help you feel more comfortable along the way.

Discomfort during pregnancy?

Aches and pains in the lower back and hips are what most pregnant women experience during pregnancy. About 50% will have back pain at one point or another before delivery. Relief through chiropractic care may be a good option to consider.

Chiropractic care is the maintenance of the spinal column and the adjustment of misaligned joints. It does not involve drugs or surgery. It is more of a physical-therapy type of treatment to help reduce spinal nerve stress and encourage health throughout the body.

More than one million chiropractic adjustments are performed every day around the world, and chiropractic care during pregnancy is generally considered safe. There may be situations where an adjustment is not a good idea, so always get your doctor’s sign-off before seeing a chiropractor during your pregnancy.

While we are licensed chiropractors and have received training related to pregnancy, we do not specialize in prenatal care. We have performed adjustments on many pregnant women in our office, and we have a special adjustable table that accommodates a growing belly. The techniques we use for pregnancy-related adjustments do not put pressure on the abdomen, making them safe for mom and baby. We can also show you effective stretching techniques to relieve tension and ease discomfort.

Can chiropractic care help during pregnancy?

There are many hormonal and physical changes you will experience during pregnancy, and some of these affect your posture and comfort. As your baby becomes heavier, your center of gravity shifts and your posture adjusts accordingly. These changes can lead to a misaligned spine or joints.

Other uncomfortable changes during pregnancy might include a protruding abdomen that increases the curve of your back, changes to your pelvis as your body prepares for labor, and adaptations to your posture.

Regular visits to a chiropractor during pregnancy can help address these issues. One collaborative chiropractic and medical study found that 75 percent of pregnant chiropractic patients reported pain relief. Adjustments designed to re-establish balance and alignment in your pelvis and spine can do more than help you feel better, they may benefit your baby too.
