Bad knees change how you move through your day. Stairs get harder. Getting out of the car takes a second longer than it used to. Even standing up from a chair starts to hurt. If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone — and chiropractic knee pain treatment is one option a lot of my Mansfield patients don’t know about until they ask.
I’ve been treating patients across Mansfield, Arlington, Grand Prairie, Kennedale, Midlothian, and Dallas since 1984, and knee pain is one of the most common complaints that walks through our door. Here’s how chiropractic care fits into fixing it — and when it makes sense for you.
You’re Not Alone With This
Roughly a quarter of adults deal with knee pain on a regular basis. It doesn’t discriminate by age — I see it in teenagers who play sports and in grandparents who just want to keep up with their grandkids. The good news: there are real options beyond pain pills and “just rest it.”
Why Your Knee Hurts
The knee is a hardworking joint. It carries your body weight through every step, and it depends on healthy alignment above and below it — your hips and your feet — to function without pain. When something’s off in that chain, the knee often takes the hit.
A few of the most common causes we see in our office:
Osteoarthritis. Cartilage wears down over time, letting bone rub against bone. Chiropractic adjustments won’t regrow cartilage, but they can improve joint alignment and take pressure off the areas that hurt most.
Referred pain. Sometimes knee pain doesn’t start in the knee at all — it’s coming from a misalignment in the hip or lower back. Treating only the knee in that case won’t fix the problem.
Iliotibial band syndrome (ITBS). Common in runners and people who are on their feet a lot, causing sharp pain on the outside of the knee.
Tendonitis and bursitis. Inflammation from overuse or injury that responds well to reducing joint stress and calming inflammation.
If any of that sounds like what you’re dealing with, don’t wait it out and hope it fixes itself. Contact our Mansfield office and let’s figure out what’s actually going on.
What Chiropractic Knee Pain Treatment Actually Looks Like
People are sometimes surprised that chiropractic knee pain treatment often starts above the knee. If your hips or lower back are out of alignment, your knee is compensating for it with every step. Realigning the joints that are actually causing the problem takes pressure off the knee itself.
Depending on what we find during your exam, treatment may include:
Spinal and joint adjustments to correct misalignments contributing to how you walk and stand.
Soft tissue work around the knee, hip, and IT band to reduce tension pulling on the joint.
Posture and gait correction so you’re not putting uneven stress on the knee with every step.
A home exercise plan to build the strength and stability that keeps the pain from coming back.
When It’s Time to See Someone
Don’t wait months hoping it improves on its own. Get it looked at if you’re dealing with swelling or stiffness that doesn’t go away, warmth or redness around the joint, clicking or popping with movement, a knee that feels unstable or “gives out,” trouble fully straightening or bending it, or pain that’s stuck around for more than a couple of weeks.
Choosing the Right Chiropractor
Not every chiropractor treats knee pain the same way. When you’re looking for care, ask whether the practice has experience with knee-specific cases, not just general back pain. Ask about their approach — do they look at the whole kinetic chain (hip, knee, ankle) or just the joint that hurts? And check reviews from real patients. We’re proud of our 5.0 Google rating and more than 40 years serving the Mansfield community, and we’re happy to answer these questions directly if you give us a call.
